Just wanted to post this event. Two years ago I went down to Union Square to shoot some of those people that converged on NYC for the end of the world. I couldn't find them, and it seemed like rapture had already happened and they all had ascended into heaven leaving people like me behind.

I walked up Broadway and discovered that a Dance Parade was going to happen later that day because of the police baracades. Eventually I found the staging area and began shooting. Even though I am a B&W shooter I whish I had color for all the costumes, but it wasn't long befor I discovered the Pole Dancing float that was there to promote a Pole Dancing School. It was pretty amazing to see some really good pole dancing on the street. I had a Mamiya 6 with a 50/4.0 so shooting with a wide meant I had to get really close. One dancer almost kicked the camera out of my hands. She held herself horizontally and then opened her legs. As I remember there was some motion blur in this picture.

This event is in conflict with the May Death March, but I wanted to post this for others that might want to shoot this event. The parade begins at 1:00 PM, but the best shooting is in the staging area just east of Broadway by the Flat Iron Building.

BTW I met this girl that I shot the year earlier at the Mermaid Parade, she remembered me and my Rollieflex.
