Hi,

I'm posting this here because there is no regional German forum. Does anybody know a good shop for film and dark room equipment in Köln ? Otherwise in Aachen, it's close enough. I'm planning to buy a development tank with the necessary chemicals and measuring cups. As for film, I would like to get a pile of Fomapan 400, which we can't get in Belgium. Leaving next week on Tuesday.

Thanks in advance,

Peter.

Hi,

I didn't see any analog on their site, except for the fairly common Leica selection, so that's why I asked. After googling, I found these shops:

- Jörg Schmidt
- Kölner Fotomarkt (same street as JS)
- Foto Kuhweide
- Foto Klug

The sites of these shops do mention some analog, but nothing about dark room or Fomapan. Any opinions on them ? I will just be in Köln for a few hours so I can't do them all 🙂 I haven't looked in Aachen yet.

Thanks,

Peter.

Hi,

I know Foto Impex and they look great. I was hoping to find a real shop I can walk into near enough to Köln where I'm taking my wife for a surprise night out. She gets her surprise, driving back, I get my dark room buying spree. Sounded like a great plan ! But it seems like it's not to be.

Thanks for all your pointers, they were helpful anyway.

All of the darkroom supplies at Foto Gregor are downstairs in the basement. Walk in and stay to your left. At the back wall is a staircase that will take you there.

since I saw your location is Leuven, have you tried the FOTOKAR Diestsestraat 141 - 3000 Leuven. I used to buy some photo equipments there when I was in Leuven.

Yes, I once had a great deal there: 5 XP2 films for €1 ! They had just reached the expiry date when I visited the shop. And they'd been kept under blazing hot spotlights. But they turned out fine in the end. Overall, it's a small shop with a so-so collection but a decent selection of film. It's let down by the really grumpy-bordering-on-the-nasty shop keeper.

Next time you're there, leave me a note. And visit Vanberghen Multimedia, Tiensesteenweg 15 (just outside of the city center, 15 minutes walk). Very friendly people. They do all my print work, mostly B&W on their Epson 9800.

There is also an Calumet shop in Essen or Duesseldorf, just in case you cannot find what you are looking for in Cologne or Aachen.. http://www.calumetphoto.de

Now that looks like the works ! I'll contact a few shops by mail to prepare, maybe pop into Gregor and if everything else fails, force my lovely wife to spend a major part of our romantic day out in a photo shop in a different city. But hey, she is getting Hotel Im Wasserturm in return !

The good thing about koln is that the cathedral is there and next to it the gallery which if you are lucky will be showing the agfa photography collection and you can walk to neumarkt from there.

Foto Gregor is directly in the middle of two connected outdoor shopping streets/areas.

On one side is Ehrenstraße, which starts at the Hohenzollernring (Ring). On the other side is Neumarkt and then the Schildergasse, the main shopping strip that heads towards the cathedral.
