Came across another tale of how David Douglas Duncan helped Nikon break into the international market. The interesting part is how subsequent comparisons of Nikkor lenses with the German lenses led to the craze among photographers for testing lenses by shooting newspapers, and also the "I got a bad copy of X lens" syndrome.

It is appalling to me that Popphoto insists on their SQF testing. Fortunately there is only one Science and a standard measure to text lenses is Transfer function (borrowed from Automatic Control). This nonsense story of SQL infuriated me to the point that I quitted my subscription. Their tests are completely useless.
