What a great career he had. I learned of his work while working as a PJ in the 60's working my way through college. He remains one of my heroes.

Sad news indeed. I remember his photography very well indeed, and met him briefly at a symposium in NY several decades ago.
What I have trouble with is realizing that he was now 102 years old. Can I really be as old as I am now? and he be 40+ years older? It doesn't seem possible!

I'm sad to learn of his passing as I've admired his work for its honesty, but I'd like to think that he lived an incredibly full life, all the way to 102! I would prefer to celebrate his life and career and look to him as an example on how to LIVE your life rather than observe it.
To see the things he has seen and experienced the things he has, and yet still make it all the way to 102 years old? I call that on heck of an accomplishment.
Rest in peace DDD, and thank you for the incredible legacy you leave behind.

Back in the early 80's I had a supervisor same age as me who was into rocket launches. There was a picture by Duncan that he really liked in Times (Life?) or one of the major magazines and he wrote to see if he could get a copy. Surprisingly Duncan sent him a signed 8x10 glossy. When he showed it to me I was bowed over and asked him if he knew who DDD was. Of course he didin't but being a nice guy he gave me the photograph. I'm sure I still have it like I have a million other memorabilia but the odds of finding it seem rather unlikely.
Nikon supplied Korean war photographers with Nikon rangefinders and lenses to break the Leica monopoly. Thanks to Duncan they succeeded. I doubt that Nikon would be the company they became without his Korean war photographs. http://time.com/3667583/korean-war-photos-david-douglas-duncan/
