Dead Charger or Battery?

I just received my brand new R-D1s from matsuiyastore!

Unfortunately, I may have a serious problem on my hands. I have plugged the charger into the wall, and inserted the supplied battery, but the charging light does not flash. It does not even light up.

I'm not sure if the battery is charging or not. It's too early to be warm, so I can't tell yet. When I place the battery into the camera, the needle goes between halfway between E and F, and around 25% left (i.e. the battery is not fully charged out of the box).

Is my charger dead, or the battery? Anything I can do to fix this?

I read Rich Cutler's site and have ordered a replacement charger and battery from SterlingTek, but that will take a while to get here and I was hoping to get some test shots tonight :(

On other possibility is that the gauge is defective. Mine is now, and actually the needle goes halfway between the E and midway -- when the battery is charged. (I have fiddled with adjusting it, but have been unsuccessful so far.) Although it is unlikely that the battery would have been fully charged when it is arrived, have you tried taking some shots, and then putting the battery in the charger to see if it lights up then?

I just got back home after being gone for about 2.5 hours, and the battery and charger are still cold, and no light is on. I put the battery in the camera and the needle is still halfway.

I will now take some photos and see what happens when I try to charge the battery.

Separate the AC cord from the charger and push it in tight again. Plug it in tight in a different outlet. Clean the battery contacts.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I managed to fix it by not pushing the battery all the way into the charger, but instead pushing it in about 95%.

Battery charged overnight and camera gauge shows it at full capacity :D
