does dhl pull the same low handed 'extra fees' crap that ups does?

i was just informed that my oly om2 is coming by way of ups and not by the advertised dhl.

that's gonna up my cost on a good deal!!

damn!

Joe, my typical bill for UPS brokerage is $25.77CDN, plus PST and GST (which is 8%+6% here in ON). I heard you guys don't even have a PST in Saudi Alberta....too much money.
You can get stuff undervalued or marked as a gift to save on the taxes, but you're SOL if it goes missing, and it happens a lot more than people think. If stuff is flown overnight (UPS Express) you won't see the brokerage fee...but you're still payin' it.
Like death and taxes, there are few ways to escape brokerage other than taking your chances and calling the package 'camera parts, no value'. But if it's checked by customs you'll probably never see the item....

i prefer the usps and canada post.
the seller is a store so they won't undervalue.
it just kills me to pay 25 to 40 bucks on a 80 dollar camera.

Will they ship it to me for $5 and I can send it USPS to you for another $5 (or what ever the lesser shipping charges may be)? That will cause some delay, but may save some $$$.

I do know that in Northen Ireland (going on my experiences over the last couple of months) DHL are much better to deal with than UPS, wherever the parel is coming from.

thanks for the offer rover but i think it may be too late. i have not heard back so it might be on the way already.

screwed...this just in...

Joe,
Recently we had to switch from DHL to UPS as we were having major problems with DHL's service both on our end and on our customer's end.
It is my understanding that both are comparable in their fees on the
customer's end.

We do not ship via USPS because we have found it difficult to track and we
are unable to insure our packages that are sent out to our customers.

and my reply...

"Shipping is through DHL."

i had asked about shipping and the above is what i was told.
it's very disappointing to have it changed now.
from what i have researched, the fees are not the same. ups is currently
being sued in regards to the excessive fees they charge, i believe there is
a reason for the suit.

just as a point of information, i will not be bidding on future auctions
from shutterblade as it is my policy to not support ups in any manner.
thanks.

next time you have one of these problems Joe, let your US cousins help out. As Ralph offered, I'd be happy to act as a relay as well, via USPS or Fedex Ground.

hope it turns out OK

and again thanks tom!
i have no problem taking advantage;) of your generosity but this was a change on their part and i think it's already on the way so too late for this deal.
and mostly i'm whining cause i really dislike ups!

fwiw, i had a sale with rff'r emraphoto abort due to ups' brokerage fees. i refunded em's payment, first. then i had the lens returned to me, but only after i was forced to pay the brokerage fees (US$81 on a $300ish CV lens).

learned my lesson the hard way

a surprise twist, just got this email...

Joe,

Ok, we can ship via DHL, however, it is going to take us 2 weeks to get it
sent out to you.
Or, I could have it sent via USPS.
Please let me know which you would prefer, I would like to have this matter taken care of in way that you find acceptable.

Thanks,

ok, shutterblade is on my good list now.

Joe, I just hope you get your item. We ordered 4 packs of Gevalia coffee thats only available this time of year. When the package arrived the corner of the box was taped and one of the packs of coffee was missing. You could tell the box was cut with a razor. We called UPS and Gevalia and are going to be reimbursed but it's just irritating to know some theif is enjoying a bag of coffee whose getting paid a heck of a lot more than me. Then to top it all off, I bought a camera bag off ebay, this time shipped USPS and the box was cut across the top; I figure to see whats inside, and they didn't even bother to tape it back up. Luckly the bag was still inside. I think next December I'm not gonna buy anything through the mail.

hope i'm not jinxing myself...but i have had very little trouble with either the u.s. or canadian post office.
even ups has been no problem except for the outrageous extra fees.
