Did the FOOVA winder work with IXMOO cassettes?

Hi Tom,

I gather you are the one most likely to be able to tell whether or not the FOOVA winder would work with IXMOO cassettes. I see that some FOOVA still exist. I will probably hunt for one, if it works with the IXMOO cassettes.

I hope you (or other members here) can help. Thank you in advance.

The original FOOVA was intended for the older FILCA cassettes - probably would cause problems with the IXMOO due to the length of the cassette and the slightly different spring lock. They are quite rare to and as they were made form 1930's bakelite - prone to cracking with age. I have never had one for these reasons. There is probably someone here on the forum that would know if it would work. It is also limited to 325 ft of film - not the XX's 400 ft reels!
 
Thank you for your information, Tom. I believe you are right about the material problem. It does seem, however, that a few in very good condition are still in circulation, judging from pictures from auctions and such. They have probably never been used, or only used for a short time long ago.

Too bad that it probably won´t be possible to use the FOOVA with IXMOO cassettes.

I think the later post war version, not to much bakelite and I think the later took 400 ft as well.

Thank you for the link, Chris. I found that advertising video as well, in several different places. There seems to be some confusion about the spool length issue. The specimens I have seen pictured all had a maximum value of "100" on the spool length dial on the side. I take it that this is 100 meters, which is roughly 330 feet.
 
If you are ready ready to reorder the acronym a bit, I would suggest a FAVOO. ;)
I just ordered mine for my IXMOOs (and I secretly hope it will work for my nikon F and F2 cassettes)

As far as I can tell, the FAVOO is a yellow 34mm screw filter.
I´m not sure whether or not you are telling me that the FOOVA will work with IXMOOs. Could you please clarify, Michael?

Sorry, my bad, I meant the AFLOO, not the right acronym :eek:
I know nothing about the FOOVA, so I couldn't tell you if it works with IXMOOs.
 
Just to conclude:
Ms. Geier from Leica Shop in Wien (Vienna), answered this question for me today. Her reply was that the FOOVA tank was discontinued in 1952 and the IXMOO spool was introduced in 1954. She also quoted a Leitz/Leica accessory reference, stating that only the FILCA spools can be loaded with the FOOVA.

Tom was right all along.

Oh well, back to my Watson.....

I watched that auction, and knew right from the start in which ballpark the amount would land.
I´m just a sucker for well-constructed tools and gadgets, and this one is certainly that. On the other hand, it has got to be something that is of practical use to me, and I cannot say that about a FILCA-only cassette loader.

A few years too late, but I've just acquired one of these bulk loaders & they do work with Ixmoo cassettes. The small differences between the Ixmoo & Filca's presents no problem at all for the Foova.
I'm currently waiting to find an early 1st version Filca to confirm whether that'll work too.
 
I use the FOOVA, and it's the best way to use the cassettes. Had no trouble with all Leitz cassettes, and I use it too with older Contax cassettes. Not surprising, as the 1938 developing tank accepts these too.
