Did you see this "new" QL17 GIII?

Auction sellers use the word "Leica" in the header or content of their eBay auctions so when people use "Leica" as a search term, they also get these other cameras showing up.

BTW, if that REALLY is a new-in-box Canonet, that's pretty cool.

I'm sure that camera will never see a roll of film. It's resting somewhere as a collection piece. It's a shame really.

I couldn't use it - too new, too clean. My most favourite cameras are well worn and I feel they live good lives.

Apart from psychological issues there are practical - some cameras don't keep shape on shelves, they gum and stick. Well, I have snatched new old stock - Ricoh SLR for a gift, but only because it were for girl and worth maybe soft NRC of this Canonet so I could swallow if it would need work.
Who knows if capacitor in flash will take charge, too.

Well, I hope it gets some use. The case is in good condition, usually they dry-rot. Too bad they did not use leather like the Minolta Hi-Matics.

I've had several Canolite D's, the capacitor was never the issue: the battery compartment doors were. the Plastic tabs that keep it in place were easily broken.

Considering the condition of the box, I don't see why it would go for that much, even if it were new and therefore never used. And of course we know ebay sellers are all and every one, honest, knowledgeable, and conservative in their descriptions. RFF sellers excepted of course. 😀 😀

I am sure it needs a CLA, sitting in the box for that long it has to be all dried out or worst if it was in a humid place.

I noticed the case as well. It looks a little shinny. Mine had a bumpier exterior, and was indeed suffering. Much thinner looking than that one as well.

Call me a cynic but I doubt that it's new. As new, lightly used maybe.
I've known people who kept all the packaging & would be able to repack the thing after very light use.
Several questions come to mind.
Where's the lens cap?
Why is the strap installed on the camera?
Where is the packaged battery?
The blank warrantee cards may be in the book but are they?

damn good questions, if we care if it's new. Ricoh SLR I mentioned, were in box not having even traces from fly legs, had papers, strap were still in sealed packaging, not even split rings were attached. And it had sealed two-pack of Sony LR44 cells, from 1988 (which still work, btw). Sure, light seals were sticky, not that it's issue.
