I found at least five different versions of this mithical lens:
-collapsible
-Dual Range
-Rigid
-type 3
-type 4
(according to dcolucci's site)
why don't you tell me what are the main differences between these lenses? could you post some shots that make me notice them?
I think this could be an interesting thread for many...

Stephen Gandy has them covered pretty well on his website: Cameraquest M-lenses
As for the DR, there is even a separate page on it: Summicron 50mm f/2 DR. The DR and Rigid are by most people considered to have the same optical formula but the DR have a more precise focal length (51.9mm).

The optics module of the DR and Rigid are interchangeable. It is the most over-engineered optics module that I've dealt with. The DR cannot be used on some modern M-Mount cameras.
The Collapsible Summicron went through a change early on, the thorium glass was replaced at about SN 1 04x xxx (I forget the cutoff. around that number).

Dual Range Summicron Samples
Here you go.

Great lens. Works on all M bodies except the M8. The "goggles" are only required for focusing closer than 1m. Built like a fine watch.

Why wait?
Why wait?
Maybe. Maybe not. They are dirt cheap now. Get one and enjoy it.
