I have a small camera case with SLR and lenses .
Should I put in cabin case [ small rucksack for later portability ] or would it be OK in hold luggage ?
Thanks

Carry on or you might miss a shot.

I always keep it with me in cabin. I guess checked in should be safe, but I'm human, I feel safer if it is closer to me.

Carry on unless perhaps you have good insurance. Even then it could ruin your holiday if your gear is lost and is unable to be replaced while away. One reason I feel a bit ambiguous about air travel right now is that they are so tough with carry on baggage (and the lack of leg room, tiny seats with people squeezed in like sardines etc) it takes the enjoyment out of travel.

Carry on, if you drop it, it won't have been thrown 20 ft through the air first...

Thanks - I guess carry on means less possibility of an extra flight of the suitcase !
Just means less gear will be possible though .
You probably guessed that this is exceptional for me , 4th flight in 40 odd years !!

Dee, I recently travelled overseas and put my small camera bag (with 2 Leica M with lenses mounted) into my carry-on back pack. I also put a layer of foam (3cm) between the case and the backpack to absorb vibrations. Worked a charm. No damage and no lost equipment.
Have a great trip!
