My film point and shoots keep breaking and I've been really enjoying Instagram lately although feeling a bit limited by the square and how awkward the iPhone is to use as a camera.
So was thinking of getting some sort of small, fast digital point and shoot, a digital T4 if you will that has some sort of filters to get a more film-ish look built in and maybe an EYE FI card for uploading.
Yes, I could post process but there is something about the immediacy of having the filters on camera that feels more like film to me rather than download bring into lightroom etc.
Anything like this exist? Was thinking it would be a really cool thing to hack into the firmware with something like the Canon CHDK thing.
Would like to avoid things like frames and super cheesy vignetting but do like the high contrast and color shifts. Anyone have one that isn't too gimicky and is actually useful?

Resurrecting an old thread here, but have you seen the new Samsung Galaxy Camera and the Nikon Android-Powered Camera? Both will allow you to use Android Apps for editing (including Instagram).
Pretty slick if you ask me... And right up your alley!
I gotta admit, I'm tempted to get one myself just for the sheer nerdiness of it. I'm a techie and love stuff like this.
