Hi,

I wanted to try the slide projector method to digitize my slides and I have a question.

I have seen that you have to insert a sheet of white plastic in front of the slide holder to diffuse the light and reduce the brightness.

Can I try using a strong ND filter on the camera? Of course this will only reduce the brightness and offer no diffusion....... I wonder if this is a solution to avoid opening the projector and putting some potentially melting or burning piece of plastic near the bulb?

Has anyone tried this?

If you are going to be doing a lot of slide copying, I think a copy stand device with light source and camera mount must be easier. There is a nice one that I see up for sale from time to time. Trusting to memory, I think it was a Bowens Illumitran. A potential problem with a projector is that the heat can cause the slide to pop. The other thing is getting the camera back perfectly parallel to the plane of the slide. A copy unit solves that.
