I think as the "item" they chose a ring (description sounds a lot like a wedding ring btw) purposefully, maybe hoping that a girlfriend/significant other would get the e-mail and think that their partner is about to buy them a ring - and not wanting to let a little thing like an account error get in the way, they go ahead and straighten things out. I suppose if you cast out enough lines someone will bite.

Well.. it's either coming from melodymail, demon.net, or somewhere in poland..

83.19.47.74 bzr74.internetdsl.tpnet.pl

I'm confused because the headers look like they are in the wrong order. Both melodymail and demon.net IP come from the UK.

Funny part is that I could connect to port 113 (ident) of that polish ip, so the person there might be running an irc client 😉 I bet the punk's name is Adam 😉 Possible this fashion place has somekind of hole in their smtp relay thingy. *shrug*

Fashion Shop Attack

Fashion Shop Attack

Fashion Shop is run by me, David and my wife Samantha. We have been in Internet retail for several years. Having started in aromatherapy, we traded in a number of different markets before setting up Fashion Shop last Spring.

About three weeks ago we started getting inundated with emails and calls about this email you have been discussing. It looks like whoever did this bought or aquired a few million email addresses and sent this bogus email out at random in an attempt to disrupt our business.

It is not a phishing scam, the link in the email does point to our web site, but the attachment does contain a virus.

As ManGo pointed out, it is a very poor email. We do not sell rings (!), the English is poor in places and the VAT calculation is wrong. Even the title of the email makes no sense.

How they've duped our email account is beyond my knowledge, however our ISP is a leading light in the UK and have excellent security in place, so we doubt anything on their servers has been compromised.

We are obviously saddened that so many people have been affected by an attack on our business. However they managed to achieve was to get our business on our regional ITV news at 6 as the headline story, and to prove that our web site was secure.

If anyone else picks up this thread on google (as we did), please be assured that the email is COMPLETELY bogus and no-one has attempted to use your card in our shop.

Kind Regards,
David and Samantha
