Do you carry two RF bodies ? Is it extravagant...

Hi.

Just wondering how many of you carry two RF bodies with you on a typical shoot, maybe one with a 35mm lens and another with a 50mm or 75mm lens ? Is it a workable solution ?

I was thinking of adding another Bessa R2 to my collection. Am I being extravagant ?

When I travel, I always have one rangefinder and one viewfinder camera with me (24x65 and 6x9). It depends on the situation and assignment if one or both and with which lenses will be used.

Right now I have my Leitz Minolta CL + CV 25/4 and my Bessa R + J8 50/2 in the courier bag I carry to work (together with a book and a pen).

When on holiday I carry these two cameras and my Leica M2 with a J3 50/1.5, J9 85/2 and J12 35/2.8.

I don't find it extravagant at all. It saves me a lot of lens switching (which not my preferred pasttime at any temperature but especially at -25 degrees C or below). It alos means I can quickly respond to a photo opportunity. Besides, if one camera fails I'll have a backup.

I carry two at least - e.g. the Bessa L w/ 25/4 Snapshot Skopar, and the Bessa R with Canon 50/1.8; today I've got four with me: the XA (w/ NP1600 rated at 800) in the breast pocket of my parka, the Bessa R w/ 50 in the side pocket, the Iskra w/ NP400 and the Werra Matic with Agfa Vista 400 in the book-bag...

Most times I carry two cams. Bessa R3A and T when out fo shooting or my two Hexars (400 and 1600 ASA) just for fun.

I bring 2 bodies whenever I spend my holidays w/. photography. Often 1 for slide shooting & 1 for B&W.

Bessa L w 25/4 on a short strap, Bessa R w 53/1.8
or 85/2 on a long strap, depending on the shoot.

1 DSLR/1 lens + 1 DRF/1 lens + a spare battery or two. That's all I need to carry! 😀 (And I can leave the DSLR at home if I'm traveling even lighter.)

Right now i carry two rf's yes, one with 45mm and the other with a 75mm lens. But "the other" is a super ikonta 6x6 so they have about the same angle of view🙂 They are both loaded with black and white,too. I know, it's kinda crazy.

I'll sneak in a plug for the Domke F3X bag here, as it was mentioned on another thread; I keep three Contaxes (a II and two IIa's) ready to roll at all times, usually with a 50/1.5, 21/4.5, and 85/2. Also in the bag is a 35/2.8, 135/4, a Zeiss 2-1/4 Folder, a Rollei R35SE, light meter, flash, and compact binoculars. In a smaller bag I keep an Alpa 10d, Contax I, and another light meter. I grab both these bags whenever I head out the door.

Depends on what I'm shooting, but a typical setup might be EOS 650 w/ a 15-30mm, 300D w/ 170-500mm and an RF with a 50'ish lens loaded with bw.

Now that I have a couple of Kiev's, I might go with 2, one with the 35/50mm and one with the 135mm or 90mm if/when I get one.

I'll also go with the Moskva 5 (medium format) and a 35mm RF, especially since the Moskva takes a bit to cock,shot and wind.

If there's a chance I'll go indoors and out, then it's at least 2 camera's also. Of course, there's also the other SLR's 🙂.

Thank you for giving me complete license to spend more money on cameras. I feel so much better.

I might consider an R3A so I can buy into the longer focal length lenses (75 & 90mm) due to its x1.0 range finder magnification. I'll keep the R2 for the 35mm & 50mm lenses, once its fixed and back from the repair shop.

My second body is a medium format rangefinder, either a 6x6 or 6x9 folder. Yes, it's an extravagance, but definitely a handy one.

I always carry two - one M4 with a 28 Elmarit and another with a 21 Super Angulon. These are my "normal" and "wide" lenses.

I think it makes more sense to get an R3a rather than another R2. As u say the R3A would be nicer for 75mm or 90mm.

I'm in a confused transitional phase. So I carry Bessa R + 35mm ultron in my coat pocket and Contax G2 + 90mm around my neck.

I may have the weirdest combo -- when I'm out shooting film, I keep a small digital (Canon S45) in my bag (often comes in very handy). When I'm out shooting my digital Lumix, I keep a small film cam in my bag (often comes in very handy).

No, you are not being extravagant. Space (& stamina) permitting, I routinely carry 2 cameras. Changing lenses can be a pain & having an extra body or 2 gives you additional flexibility so that you can access different films & formats.

I always carry three (3), two to use and one as a back-up. When you use a lot of Soviet cameras, you have to expect breakdowns from time-to-time.
