Does anyone have a damaged M6 frameline mask laying about?

DAG doesn't have one, and I'm not about to spend $80 on a new one for this purpose.

A friend has an industrial quality laser and is open to trying to cut custom VF masks. Imagine this: 28/90 - 35/135 - 40/75. Or 90 - 35 - 75. Or 28 - 35 - 40. Or the one I want to try - 28/90 - 35 - 40/75.

So, does anyone have a spare damaged mask that we could measure?

Wow, now that would be great fun.

I might have one from the M5- I can check in the studio tomorrow- but I'm pretty sure Sherry only showed it to me- they were still in good enough shape to re-use. You might call her about one to borrow.

Wow, adding a 40 to an M would be great!!
I also can think of upgrading a current prod camera to the good old, larger frames...
A whole world of possibilities....

I really do hope this works out!

So do I!

Maybe you could define some kind of standard workflow with the combined help of a repairman who is willing to see it as a project.
Maybe produce a certain number of masks for where seems to be some demand and propose the upgrade at a fixed cost...

In any case, please keep us updated...

If you can figure out how to duplicate the M4 frameline mask so it fits in an M6/M7, I will buy a few from you tomorrow.
It doesn't have to be glass, just exactly duplicate the M4 markings as they are.

Note that the M2/M4/M5 framelines cover a slightly larger area (1m vs 70cm for the M6/ttl/M7/MP) and therefore are more accurate at normal shooting distances.

Harry, that's the idea - to be able to cut any frameline set desired. Laser cutting makes low production or even one-off masks possible.

My friend needs to see one first to determine if he can make the required burns.

Hey Ken

I think the odds of finding a damaged frameline mask is pretty thin. As you know they are buried pretty deep inside the RF unit and you would have to literally crush the camera to destroy it.

Maybe Don or Sherry will lend you or rent you one for a deposit. Look at it like this. If you started to sell these, someone is going to have to install them...
