as long as it didn't leave any residue or dust, seems OK to me. Personally, I use a small chip of rubber tyre and it works perfectly.

Hard to tell from the picture. Take a small screwdriver or something similar and poke it a couple of times. If it is good, nothing will happen. If it is bad it will start to crumble. Better to find out now than later...

I took advice and gave the pad a poke, and it is not disintegrating.
seems almost new, just slight give as would be expected from a piece of rubber.

I'm glad to hear that the pad seems ok.
I hope that somebody can point me in the right direction next.
On auto the over/under lights are a bit erratic and the shutter appears to work at different speeds but only when pointed at a direct light source.
At the higher Fstops (11 & 16) the shutter stays open.
When I point away from direct light the shutters open, but stay open until I, either move the winder or point the camera back at the light.
This last scenario is for all settings.
The shutter works everytime on B and flash settings.
I hope that somebody can point me in the right direction next.
