Well my strawman did not work out very well in regards to who would be willing to pay a small fee for the gallery. Many people suggested a donation link instead. As long as I run this site there will NEVER be a fee to the members. I do this out of my own passion for rangefinders and photography. I have taken your suggestions and have created a donation link on the main page.

Are you sure it links to the right person? I end up with Home Theater Discussion, which isn't quite RFF or DSLRX....

Remy, Home Theater Discussion was founded by Jorge as well :)

I think the donate link may be a good idea, do you take paypal ? :D

Oscar

PS: yes I see that INDEED the link is paypal, hehe. Never read without your glasses.

Yes, i am curious too. I like that it accepts paypal and will click as soon as i know there's no mistake:)

Yes HTD is the very first site I started. I am in the process of changing that name to Jorge Torralba so it is less confusing.

"Shipping & Handling: $34.00 USD "

why is that? And do i really need a credit card?? Can't i do it just from my paypal funds, like an ebay auction? I plan to donate half of the funds i have :D but that's less than the shipping and handling fee...

Fixed. Sorry about that. Thanks for your support!

Jorge

PS: Manolo,
The band width is $200.00 month and the hardware was about $6,000.00. Does not include software,

Donations stop me from having to seek out advertisers and keeps the site unbiased.

Jorge - not fixed... still the same. I know it should be possible to make it straight easy and free of charge - Photo.net has that version. But here i still have to enter credit card info (which i don't have) and pay a 34$fee...

Same here; wants a $34 shipping and handling fee. Jorge, what is you paypal account number and we can do this the old fashioned way.

Figured it out. It automatically would put in a shipping charge based on the amount of the transaction. I have set all those charges to 0.00 and tested it myself. Seems to be working now. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the support.

Just completed the transaction. Thanks Jorge for all the hardwork for the past 1 year. :)

OK, just out of curiosity... how much are we donating? I don't want to look too cheap and I don't want to rub Jorge the wrong way. It's difficult to put a value on something so intangible as a website. So I have a hard time deciding what would be a fair amount.

Any suggestions?

You'll never look cheap making a donation.

For me, it was helpful to think of my donation as a honor-system subscription.

A lot of of us subscribe to Popular Photography and willingly pony up $12 a year for it. That's a buck a month - I enjoy this site much more than I do Pop Photo, so I used a multiple of that. I also scheduled a reminder to myself to "re-up" my "subscription" to rangefinderforum.com on a set date.

I co-own and maintain two very active websites and know what it's like to consider donations, subscriptions and the like to keep the lights on - I think our host will be appreciative of whatever you see fit to kick in.

I am thinking of making a scheduled contribution of every 3 months. If each contribution one donates $10 that will be $40 per year. But I would think that is up to the individual to make the decision on how much the donation would be.
