Double accessory shoe? Shoe spacer?

I just picked up a nice Kodak Retina 35-80 accessory viewfinder (for use on my various screw-mount rangefinder bodies). It's big and bright and clear and has parallax correction.

However, it doesn't quite clear the shutter speed dial on my Fed camera (and probably won't clear the speed on the Zorki I have coming).

Can anyone recommend a source for something that'll raise it slightly in the shoe or displace it to the side? Something like the Voigtlander double shoe would be handy but they are nearly £40 gbp which is more than the camera and the finder combined.

Anyone made a bracket like this? I'm thinking of taking a junk camera maybe and use the shoe from that along with a bracket of some kind.

Your accessory viewfinder might not 'view' accurately if you attach an extender between it and the camera body. Some external viewfinders just aren't for some cameras.

The original Contax turret finder from whence the Soviet turret finder was derived presented the same problem when used as it was on a Zorki or FED. It never had problems with the Contax or even the Kiev since the shutter dial was located far to one side. The Soviet turret was reoriented to the other side so that its body cleared space for the rotating dials of the FED and Zorki.

On second thought, given the lower profile of the Zorki-1 or FED-1 (and perhaps the second models of these cameras), a spacer between finder and camera might help. The Retina were higher so a finder designed for these cameras would have enough clearance. Perhaps a shoe contact to PC adaptor (if one that is not so thick is found) used for flash contact adaptation may be used as a shoe extension.

A hot-shoe to pc flash adapter could be just what you need. It will raise the finder about 5mm. You can get them for just a few dollars on eBay.

Who knows? One day you might get to use it for its intended purpose too...

Just make sure you get one with a shoe on the top. Not all have them, and I got it wrong!
