i have come into possession of a dr 50 summicron.
when the f stops are above 5.6 the focus is incredibly hard to turn, (after 5 ft).
when f stops are f 16 or 11, it is pretty much normal.

i'm wondering who would be best to fix this, and what the cost might be.
also what might cause this.

thanks,

Lack of lubricant, dried lubricant, or some physical damage to the threads.

Send it to DAG (Don Goldberg). I sent him my M4P with the 50mm DR Summicron for adjustment. He was fast, efficient and not terribly expensive.

Actually you can lubricate the focusing mount by yourself. There are three screw holes in the barrel designed for injecting lubricant. And you can also screw the lens head (which contains all elements) off the focusing mount and lubricate the focusing mount from both front and rear sides.

I lubricated mine last week using the Super Lube lubricant

and now it is so smooth that I can focus even using one finger.

As for the aperture ring/blade, it hides inside the lens head and is not that easy to hack. Sending it for a CLA would be a better idea....
