I own a ZM 28mm lens and love it. I was girding myself to shell out about $850 for a 50mm Planar, but notice that the prices have dropped by a couple of hundred. The other ZMs still cost the usual. I found the same at Popflash and at B&H. Is this fortuitous timing, or am I missing something ? Is there a new version about to be released ? Is it not as good a lens design as the other ZMs ?

OK. Zeiss Biogons though they are fantaastic lenses do not hold their value as the Leica name does. It is strictly in the name, nothing more. Actually the 28mm Zeiss Biogon is rated better than the 28mm Leica. Go with the Biogon and use it...don't look back...you never know who is gaining on you.

No price drop

The Planar has always been priced about $200 less than the least expensive Biogons. Used prices are even less.

A very nice lens for B+W, gives a charcoal sketch effect of sharp lines and smudged contours
