Ducati Half Frame Camera

As an avid Ducatisti (lover of Ducati's), I have had about a dozen of their motorcycles and currently own two. Hell, my ID here is even from their valve system 'desmodromic'.
Anyway, I have a Ducati radio to go with my bikes but I recently discovered that they made cameras too for a while.
The camera in question is a half frame and I think a rangefinder that had a range of interchangeable lenses.
Now what I'd love is to buy one of these babies. Just imagine the scene: I go for a ride with the Italian motorcycle club and at the first stop I pull out my Ducati camera to take their photo!

Gotta get one! If anyone has one for sale or knows of one, please let me know.

I wondered if that was the source of your handle. I'd rather a nice new Thruxton Bonneville, but that's why theres so many different bikes 😀 Cameras, too, for that mater!

Hadn't heard of that half-frame before, but I'll keep aware of it now. Good luck!

William

wow! a link already. I wonder if Ing Fabio Taglioni designed these too? ;-)

The Thruxton looks OK but not my cuppa tea. Ducati's new range of classics looks better ;-) the Paul Smart replica or the new old Sport

I currently have a 350 Desmo and a Cucciolo plus a KTM Supermoto and a Buell XB9S. Currenly lusting for either a new 'old' Ducati or the new KTM 950 Supermoto

........oh, and that new leica, the ducati camera, a ferrari, a 40 bedroom house, my own island in the sun, my own country so i can make the trains run on time etc.................i guess i can keep on dreaming for a while, lotto hasn't called yet

Thanks guys

That certainly looks like an interesting shooter. Good luck desmo. Hope you can come up with one. Judging from Gandy's article, it appears "the mandatory Ducati film cassette needed to shoot the camera" may be that little part that would make this a difficult user; rare camera with even rarer film cassette. Just the same, it could prove to be an intersting and enjoyable hunt; I wish you the best, so press on, good man, press on.

(Hmmm. I wonder if Gandy might put you in contact via email or whatever with Gianni Medici? It would be worth a try, IMO.)

I take it Luigi is a RFF member?

Desmo,

love Ducatis, too.

Luigi in Italy (leicatime) seems to be a Ducati camera collector, you might want to pop him an email.
They are very rare I understand.

Best,

Roland.

Cheers, actually at this juncture i'd buy a non working one just to put in my display collection.
then i could point at it when my Ducati riding friends came around

Checked the member lists and there doesn't seem to be a leicatime there.

there is a liecaman but he's in the USA

desmo,

Scroll to the top of the homepage. Luigi is a site sponsor (i.e. helps pay the bills here)! He's located in Italy.

Thanks for Luigi's link Roland.
I looked at yr thread, bummer! I raced Ducatis for years and won lots (in New Zealand). Best ever win was the BEARs support race for the 1992 World Superbikes in NZ. I won on a 750 F1 against all the bigger bikes.

I've had Pantahs, 900SL, the 1st 916, a 2001 900SS injected and kinda like the ugly duckling Multistrada (and so does Mrs Desmo which is more important).

What are you replacing the ST4 with? ST4S perhaps?

The new mocked up Ducati Supermoto looks interesting too. Pity it's not likely for a year or two.

Yes. He actually is a sponsor.

PS: drive safe. See my thread http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16562
I am just waiting for my next bike ... Hopefully I'll pick it up tomorrow.

thanks Roland, I emailed Luigi asking for a Ducati for sale (actually, I think I begged a little)

Me too. I ride a Giant Carbon MCN single speed mountainbike.
Actually I haven't ridden much in the last 18 months since crashing it in the forest and breaking my back. I was paralysed on my right side for about 5 months (dead leg and arm) but they operated and replaced some backbone with one of my ribs. The spinal cord was pressurised but not badly damaged and after the swelling went down, my leg and arm came back. I'm still numb in places but compared to what I was facing; i'm in miracle land.

I remember slinging a leg over my Ducati wondering if I'd ever ride again (and thinking I'd never ride mountainbikes again). I even started drawing up mods to the controls of the motorbike so I could ride it.

I was always happy that at least I'd still be able to shoot pictures.

Anyway, I'm now able to ride both motorbikes and mountainbikes again but as you can imagine, I'm somewhat slower and more careful in the forest nowadays.

I into bikes too, but the kind you have to pedal!

Nice bike Roland, my friend Paul has the 1100S. We ride together a lot. He has a new R1200S ordered. They arrive in about a month I think. 20kg less weight than the 100 and 20 more horsepower.

Actually I had an ST4S.

No I decided to be a bit more conservative, I got a R1100S ... Still two cylinders, though 🙂

Best,

Roland.

OMG!
I just found a couple of Ducati Cameras for sale on Luigi's site: 900-1200 Euros!

I hope he has a damaged one or a kind heart.

One of the items i watch for on the bay is Ducati Sogno cameras. Currently there is only a part up for bid. But, I have seen a few come and go over the past year.

My brother in law is a Ducati owner. I sent him a link to one of the auctions and he lost to another enthusiast.

thanks Roland, I'm an optimist and was never morose/depressed.

i was already making plans for my new life before the operation, photography was to be the mainstay and a sidecar was on the cards

thank the wonders of modern medicine it never came to that!

the foot long scar down my spine is a chick sympathy magnet but my wife doesn't like me using it (dunno why ;-))

I see the strange viewfinder on eBay.
There's also a non rangefinder Ducati (Simplex) Camera on eBat UK at about $650 so far.
That's about as much as my Cucciolo is worth!

Hi Desmo! It's nice to find a ducatista (you must say: one "ducatista", or two "ducatisti" ...) who wants to buy a Ducati camera! I don't know if you have already found it, but if you are still interested, take a look to www.9cento.it: it's a camera shop here in Italy, and should have some Ducati Sogno and Simplex: I 've seen some of them the last time I was there, and they are really nice (and small.. 🙂 )

Ciao
Franco

ps: forza Ducati !!!!!!!!!
