Ebay Australia - Not Paypal Only!

Ebay Australia has lost its fight to have Paypal the only payment option allowed (apart from cash on pick-up).

The ACCC ruled that allowing Paypal only would be an anti competative practice and that Ebay members should decide for themselves which payment method they wish to use.

Thank goodness for that. I only hope that this flows on to other Ebay sites world wide.

There is no "case" as such as the matter has not been determined by the courts. The competition regulator, the ACCC has made a recommendation. EBay either has to present further evidence persuading the ACCC that its recommendation is inappropriate, or mount an action in the Federal Court seeking the Court's determination that the ACCC decision is unfair or ultra vires etc. Follow the attached link for a newspaper summary of the present status: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2008/06/20/1213770890771.html.

On the 7th. of July Ebay Australia officially withdrew its intent to make Paypal the only means of payment allowed for Ebay Australia.
