I have several enlarger lenses that are very nice and wonder if they
can be used on a Fed 5 or will the registration distance be wrong?
They mount to the camera ok but I am wondering what the pictures
will be like. They seem like the rear element is much closter than
on the Idustrar.

Don't bother. The only thing they have in common is the M39 thread. Negative to lens distance is of no consequence in an enlarger. The least likely thing you would want to do is focus the negative at infinity.

You can get very sharp images using an enlarger lens on a camera, but not with a Fed-5/El lens combo. neither the Fed-5 nor the El lens has a focusing mechanism and the typical mount is too close to the film plane to even focus at infinity.

I have used a Vivitar 135/4.5 enlarger lens mounted on a 31/4 X 41/4 Speed Graphic with sheet film. The Speed Graphic has both a focusing bellows and a focal plane shutter. It works, but is somewhat of a pain.

It's also possible to buy a reflex mount with a Leica thread. Used with a long focal length enlarging lens, it can be used on any Leica thread or M mount camera. They were made by Leitz as well as a Japanese company which marketed as Accura.

Been there, done that, not much to report😀

Even stopped right down, there wasn't much to see; that said, you ought to try it out to say that you've done it!
