I saw that video this morning. Leitz Cine lenses are incredible. The recent Elsie range for full frame and Thalia for 65 format sensors are especially beautiful. They aren't the kind of lenses one just buys - usually they are held by rental houses and supplied for productions. A single high end cinema lens like a Zeiss Supreme or Master Prime sells for tens of thousands of dollars. I'd love to work with some Leitz Cine lenses one day. Here's a fun price list:

Ranging from $14,000 to 42,000, these lenses represent some of the best cinema lenses in existence.

As a much lower budget alternative, a number of owner/operator cinematographers have a set of Leica R lenses which have either been converted or rehoused for cinema use. Some consider Leica R lenses to be lower budget alternatives to Cooke cinema lenses for their rendering.

Conversion means their apertures have been declicked, they have follow-focus rings attached, and the Leica R mount converted to Canon EF for more wide adaptability. Rehoused means that all the lens elements have been removed, and put into a new custom made lens that has gears for follow focus, a standardized filter size, and standardized barrrel size.

Cine lenses charm me. I have the Cooke Amotal, a one-off for the Bell and Howell Foton, IIRC. It's a lovely lens with a cine glow. The Thypoch Simera has a glow as does its Eureka to a lesser extent. The Thypochs yield denser colors, too, without being garish. Thypoch makes cine lenses.

The Elcan angle grabbed my interest along with the attendant mystery about it.
