I Just picked up an Electro 35 for $10. It is cosmetically in excellent to mint condition, but alas the shutter does not fire at all, neither with nor without a battery. Is this a POD issue? I successfully replaced the POD on my GSN a while back, so the 2nd time should be even easier.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Regards to all,

Michael

hm, with rotten POD it should default to 1/500, as I remember. Shutter button travels down as expected ? Isn't possible that shutter button lock is misadjusted - looking like freed, though not letting to release fully ?

Does it clunk when winding?
Do the red/orange lights work as expected?
If the answer is no to these questions, it is very probably the POD problem.

It does clunk on rewind, similar to my POD fixed GSN. The lights do operate. The shutter button does press, and I can here what should be the release, but the blades move only a teeny-tiny bit, and not everytime. I've pulled the front elements and gave the blades a bit off lighter fluid treatment, but still nothing.

One thing I notice now that I did not before is the self-timer is pulled down and stuck, but I'm pretty sure I did that by accident while removing the front element. I think I read somewhere how to release it?

Any more suggestions?

I was thinking it could be a broken wire in the electromagnet that fires the shutter, but in that case the shutter blades would not move even a tiny bit. It could be that the head of the magnet is dirty. You'd need to open the lens up from the front to check this.

If the shutter has not released as shown by arrow one. Then release it and make sure the self timer winds down. Then lightly oil the areas marked by the X's. Be sure to oil both upper and lower areas that pivot.
If the self timer does not wind down, remove it, it's trash. The little spring fingers get bent, and can't be straightened.
