Hi All,

I just bought an Electro GT at my local Goodwill for $20. The camera is in excellent condition cosmetically but it has some issues. I couldn't not buy it for some reason.

Anyway I need some repair advice.

The focus ring has had the screws removed that hold the ring to the lens. So it just spins left and right. But it only spins halfway and it is on upside-down so the numbers on the focues ring are facing down. If I take the lens apart as explained on Matt Denton's Site does anyone know if I can get the focus ring to turn it around without removing the shutter?

Second, I put in a good battery from another electro and the battery light comes on but the metering is not working. Any ideas on how to start troubleshooting that would be most welcome. I'm going to try to fix it myself.

Thanks so much,

Are the little set screws completely gone?

This sounds like quite a bit of work is needed.
The lack of meter lights could be the POD or corroded wires. I've even had both bulbs bad at once.

hey greyhoundman...any chance you would be interested in fixing my GX?

the front viewfinder glass has cracked and a large piece has come loose. i can send some pics if you would be interested.

thanks.

Yes, the little set screws are completely gone. I just got back from one of my favorite stores in Toronto that is wall to wall with little bins full of bits for electronics gearheads (Active Surplus on Queen St.). Anyway, I couldn't find any screws remotely looking like they might want to fit in there.

Is a parts camera the only way to get those kind of bits or Would a good camera repair shop have them you think?

THanks,
Travis

Electro Repair Update at halfway point

Electro Repair Update at halfway point

Hello,

So I managed to get the lens board off of my Electro GT following the instructions of yashica-guy. I can see that there is a white wire coming from the top of the battery compartment that is hanging on by a thread. I'm hoping that is why the battery indicator bulb lights up but the light meter does not. The meter maybe draws more power than the test bulb?

But even with the lens board off, I don't see a way to get my focus ring rotated back to the top of the lens. It's currently upside-down with it's set screws long gone :(. I noticed that there are two close-together screws on the lens barrell between the focus ring and the front of the lens. I can see they have been removed before. Does anyone know if those will let me move the focus ring back around to the top of the camera?

Also After my first attempt to re-assemble the lens board to the body, the shutter won't fire and film advance lever wont turn. I need to figure out why and try it again. Any advice would be most welcome :).

I'll keep you updated. I'm sure everyone's on the edge of their seats :)

Thanks,
Travis

Wow - I am impressed with your efforts and I belong to the group of people who always try to fix/repair old cameras instead of just getting rid of them when they do not work.... The good thing is sthat there are plenty of FT/FTN/GS/GSN/CC/MG1´s around for a reasonable price so if you fail - don´t give up - just get a new one!!
Let us know how things develop!
