Elliot Erwitt retrospective in Bradford, UK

The NMPFT in Bradford is holding a retrospective of Elliot Erwitt's work until May 1st.

There's even a talk and book signing session by the Master himself on 26 April.

Has anybody seen the exhibition yet? Does it offer a chance to see less known work by Erwitt in addition to his widely published pictures?

You can check 136 shots from him at magnumphoto. I did, there's some wonderful work there, his series on pets/people are truly great 🙂

"Snaps" is a bargain as well, if you like his stuff. 500 pages of well, exactly what it says on the cover.

I went a couple of weeks ago.

An excellent exhibition with about 100 photographs on show. Many of the famous ones are there, but also a number that I at least wasn't familiar with.

Admission to the museum and exhibition is free.

The exhibition will probably be too far to go for me. I found the article interesting if a little bland.

I'm familiar with most of Erwitt's published work (and I love it), that's why I asked whether the exhibition would be an opportunity to see less-known stuff.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware of this article. I don't read Black and White Photography - it's the whole magazine I find very bland...

I agree that the book would have benefited from a harder edit, maybe to half its size, but it still contains a lot of extremely good pictures in my opinion. "Snaps" they might be, but only insofar as they are of the reactive, rather than conceptual, type of images. You can't take away from Erwitt the fact that he really had a knack for capturing evocative moments with total control over composition and perspective.

That said, I understand that some people prefer Friedlander... 😉

Hey; he chose the title, not me! I do like Friedlander, but I absolutely agree that Erwitt is brilliant as well. I am in awe of both and should have been more careful with what I wrote 😱 😉
