Hi all, what's a reasonable price for an M-mount 50/2.8 Elmar in excellent condition (the older one, not the newly discontinued model)?
Thanks,
Ari

I sold one recently for £160 plus post in lovely condition. I just got another with a camera I bought and for the money they cost, i'm going to keep it. A really great lens, a bit fiddly but great. This, I think is the bargain of Leica glass.

I got one from 1960, paid $285 for it. It's in mint condition, and it's one of my favorite 50's. Love how it draws, and it's -sharp-. Like to play it off the V2 50mm F2 Rigid Summicron.

So it sounds like the $400 - $600 that folks like KEH, Adorama and Sherry Krauter are asking for the lens is a bit high. (For those prices you can pretty much reach a latest version Elmar-M.) Though I guess there's some more assurance to be had from a dealer over getting one cheap on fleabay....

I like to alternate between the Elmar and the Summicron. Sometimes I shoot the same scene with both lenses, I'm trying to learn the differences. I find it interesting how I get different "looks" with those two lenses, but of course, they are completely different optical formulas.
I have them both, and I'm glad I do. Enjoy your Rigid Summicron.

I do see Elmars priced up to $600 on Ebay, I chose my auction carefully, had no competition, and won mine for $285. That's what I'd do, if I were you. But, as you say, there's nothing wrong with paying a -bit- more and getting the benefits of buying from a dealer.
