Anyone use an elmar 90/4 on the bessa r?
Would like feedback on this combination - ergonomics, whether the meter works properly with the lens, etc.

thanks

I liked this combo. When i had my R, the 90 Elmar was fine with it for metering, a little slow to focus--my Elmar(not knowledgeable enough about these to generalize) has a fairly long focus "throw"; it's almost 180 degrees from closest focus to infinity. Mine is a pre-war uncoated lens(1937 as best as I can determine based on its ser. #) and one string suggestion that was made to me and I pass on to you: use a lens hood!
All in all, a very usable package, I think.

I was also comfortable with that combination, used a bag with 35 + 90, and a fast 50 for evening. The 90 is of course physically longer than any other lens I've used on the bessa R, but is light enough not to shift the balance too far forward. The 90 frames are pretty small, but you can see for yourself if that's a problem. I had no compatibility issues.

I find the 90mm elmar c works great on my bessa R3M, in fact it has given the 90 a new life. The 1to1 finder (on the bessa), unlike the leica cl finder makes the 90 framelines almost like the 50mm framelines on the cl, or in other words, the lens works like a "normal" lens -- easy to focus, easy to compose -- instead of a tiny rectangle almost the size of the rangefinder patch. Much more inclined to take it along now.
