What IS it about C-41 that makes it so fragile?
Ever since I started developing, it's been very obvious that C-41 has many more surface defects at scanning than B&W. And I can't understand why...
1. Do B&W chemicals developing C-41 make it more susceptible to damage than B&W?
2. Is the emulsion more fragile than B&W?
3. And Kodak BW400CN seems more susceptible to damage than cheap Fuji 400.
4. Is B&W film somehow inherently tougher than C-41?
I can be "painfully" careful with C-41. Uncork it just before hanging. Very. Gently hang. STILL get damage.
With B&W I can do my normal changing bag, develop, unspool in kitchen and walk to bath to hang and not have ANY damage.
WTH?????
