Howdy Folks!

Today I got the Lynx 14 that I bid for on ebay. Looks pretty clean. Been stored for a while.
The good news is the lens looks great and the battery compartment is clean! :D
Now for the bad news. The shutter is not opening. It looks like it wants to, but it may be sticky. Also the range finder is foggy and needs cleaning. And it is kind of dim. I do not see the yellow diamond at all. Other wise it looks like it's in pretty good shape for a cost of $26.00 plus shipping.
Does anyone have any suggestions on do it yourself ? Or should I send it to Mark Hama ?

Thanks for your help !

Send it to G-man!

Seriously - send a pm to Greyhoundman for advice. If it was rough-looking and you are pretty handy with fine mechanisms, you could treat this as a learning experience and fix it yourself. If it's in nice condition, and you'd rather not meddle, having it serviced by one who's been there is a good idea. G-man did the work on my Lynx that I recently sold to another member; he even gave it new clothes!

Its not too hard to take out the front lens element and swab the shutter with lighter fluid until it moves freely. In my experience this might take a couple of days of swabbing, clicking the shutter, waiting for the shutter to dry, clicking and swabbing again until it works.

You can take the top off and clean the viewfinder glass. I don't know what you can do about the dim rangefinder spot, outside of the black dot trick on the front side of the view finder.

A cleaner view finder might help make the spot visible.

Hey Chris & Jon,

Thanks for the help. On futher inspection, it looks like I will also need to replace the light seals.
I think I had better seek the council of the G- Man on this one !

I sent a camera to Mark Hama and more than one to Gman. Mark is the goto guy for a very serious issue. All other problems Gman has handled. Think of him as a friend at RFF who looks after members. My first call is always to him. If you are good with cameras John and Chris have given good resources.

Good luck and don't forget to post in the 'Show us your Yashica' shot thread started a long way back by John

Probably the mirror of your rangefinder fell off and is laying somewhere under the top cover.
It needs to get glued back on and then the rangefinder needs to be readjusted. Furthermore the shutter is probably sticky. Mostly it's easy to clean just by putting a drop of lighter fluid and playing with the shutter, sometimes it's difficult and you have to clean all the blades seperately (after taking them out). If you feel insecure about the operation, just send it to an expert, because nothing is more frustrating than ruining you own camera.
By the way, I've got a Lynx 14 too and I tell you: it's worth having it repaired!

Thanks to you all ! I feel better already. A PM has been sent to the G-Man for advice !
I am looking forward to using this camera. It is in nice shape otherwise and that LENS...... oh my !
