Any opinions on the Epson 4000? I have a chance to pick one up for $400.00. It's in very good shape.

Great printer but ...
Great printer, very sturdy, and with much more control than the 2200/2400/3800 printers. But K2 inks do generate a lot of problems (metamerism, gloss differential).
If you want to print BW, the epson driver with K2 inks is unusable. You'll need a special software (Quadtone RIP), which is not simple to use when you want to print on a paper which is not supported.
You may want to look at the 3800 or HP printers instead.
A great point is the ink cartridge capacity, and the ability to use papers in roll (more economic).
