I am looking for a scanner capable of doing film and this one is REALLY well priced (70 US shipped from Epson). I plan on using it to scan b/w negs and color negs too. My main problem is I'm not sure how good the quality will be. The website says it will be good enough to make 8x10 prints from the negative which is just right.
My other option is to have my stuff scanned at Wal-Mart to a CD, but the scans arent THAT good (1818x1228).
If the Epson will give me better results, let me know because if so, then I'll probably buy it.
Also, If any of you have this scnaner, Let me know what you think of it!
Thanks guys
Tom

Hello Tom,
I don't have this scanner but I have the 3170. In my own evaluation tests I came to a real resolution estimation of approximately 1250dpi (while the box / website will say 3200).
The only one competent (in my opinion) computer related magazine here in Germany (c't) is doing also some scanner tests from time and to time and while testing the 3170 they came up with an estimation of 1350dpi which makes me trust in their testing method.
Testing the 3590 their estimation was even worse then the 3170 results back than so I think it will be not better than 2MP per 135 film frame. Whether this is good enough for 8x10 prints depends on your perception, for me it isn't.

Hi,
I just got this and am quite pleased. So far I've just scanned 35mm but it can do larger formats too.
I scan at 2400 dpi which gives me a file I can easily print to 12x18 (13x19).
It's about $180 USD - and well worth it.
