Epson V600 or Plustek 8100

Hi guys.

I've been using a HP G4550 for a while now, but I moved to the other side of the world and I'm scannerless now.

I'm looking into these 2. It's just going to be used to scan mostly B&W negatives, sometimes color.

What would you recommend between those 2? Or other options in that price range that I can purchase of Amazon.
 
Had the Plustek 8200 for 3 weeks but sold it to buy a V600. I prefer to miss a little bit of scan quality for the HUGE advantage to be able to scan 12 negs in one go automatically without having to babysit the scanner to move that darn negative holder!

And the scans from the V600 are really good.

I'm reading mixed things about both scanners. Do you use the 600 with any add-on?
The quality of scans out of my HP weren't all that great, and I would be content with a 8MP picture out of my analog photos.

Thats why I'm guessing the V600 would do. Also I wouldn't mind babysitting the scanner since I prefer to be there when it happens, and I don't scan entire rolls at the same time.
 
The difference between both scanners was not very great.

I'm using the standard holders and the scans are quite OK, though not up to real prints
 
agree. I "upgraded" from epson V330 to plustek 7600SE. although V330 is not as sharp as v600, let alone 7600, I still miss the provision for scanning 6 frames at once with V330 quite a lot.

I am surprised too.
I use a Epson V700 with special holders & glassinserts and a Plustek 7600i.
For 35mm the difference in quality is significant!! The Plustek is simply better.

I agree about the inconvenience of scanning 1 picture at a time with the Plustek though.
So what i do now is make small contact scans with the Epson and then rscan the keepers with the Plustek.
 
I want to scan them to a resolution equal to 8mp, is the epson V600 enough, of should I go for the Plustek. I plan on printing some negatives to hang in my house here, but it doesn't need to be like art gallery quality.

So the plustek is sharper then the v700?
 
If I did not shoot medium format, I would not bother with a flatbed. If you're just using 35mm I think a dedicated scanner is likely the way forward.
 
Just for reference: I'm using a 7600iSE and think 3600dpi only has limited benefit, so I typically use 2400dpi to get ~7.5MP, with iSRD on. My computer cannot even handle 7200dpi.

Sounds good. I have to buy it through amazon, thats the only way to get something in this country in a safe way.

The Epson V600 is 192 dollar
The Plustek 8100 is is 290 dollar.

300 is about my budget, maybe you guys know of any alternatives?
I don't care that I have to feed to scanner manually, as long as I get acceptable scans at a reasonable price.
 
then Plustek 7600 to 8100 is the best bang for your buck
