Seems to me Epson have missed a trick with the R-D1.

If you're like me, you have the user definable button set to Magnify. In magnify mode, you can use the "jog control" to zoom in and out; to shift left and right, you have to lift the jog control and turn it; to shift up and down, you have to lift the jog control, press another button and again turn it.

Sounds unnecessarily complicated? It is.

There's also the great little 3 position centre-biased switch which is used to adjust resolution and white balance.

It would be much better if this switch's 3 positions could be used to select what happens when you use the jog control in magnify mode:

- Shift Up and Down
- Zoom In and Out
- Shift Left and Right

You could then use your left index finger to adjust the jog control and your right thumb to select which of the 3 directions you want to move, "X", "Y" or "Z".

All that would make reviewing the image in detail the easiest of any camera I've come across.

Or perhaps the R-D1 wasn't quite intended to be a "digital" camera. :p

Mark I think a lot of that ergonomic problem could be solved by simply turning off the LCD.
