So, the discussions and polls have come up with a trip to Gdansk over the weekend of 17th.May. :)

I have copied, below, the early posts about details of the Gdansk trip by Janko and Tom. Putting the details in this thread gets them out of the way of the no-longer-needed polls and reduces the amount of redundant information.

From janko7l,

way to go. love it.
my plan is thursday to tuesday. anybody with a similar plan?
do we have any gdansk locals or frequent visitors here to put some advices about hostels/hotels?
see you soon, can't wait :)

The Wiki historical page for Gdansk is here.

The Gdansk tourist organisation page, in English, is here.

Weather statistics for Gdansk are here.

One Euro is approximately 4,2 Zloty.

Poland is, of course, within the Schengen area.

tough one to make logistics-wise, but definitely a beautiful city and a fascinating choice. will do my best to be there.

Just a bump for the thread . . .

And wondering who might have visited Gdansk previously? There is a great historical side to the Hanseatic and free-trade port, plus the more recent political Solidarnosc activities. I suspect that there will be more evidence to be seen for the first area than the second, except that without the second we would not be able to photograph the first of course.

Maybe someone can recommend a pub/beer bar/ beer gallery? :p

i checked, they have quite limited amount of single rooms at a budget (or close) prices... will have to decide soon :)

As well as small pensions and hostels, there are also a few campsites out of the central area, most are near public-transport and could be an acceptable alternative.

I'd really like to come and probably will be able to make it. I'm a native polish speaker but unfortunately can't help out flat-wise because I don't live there but I might be handy when it comes to translation ;)
btw beer is pretty inexpensive in Poland 1,50 to 2 euros :)

Yay, have a good time all.

See you all for the 10th anniversary meet, back in Paris? :)
