This was w/ an Epson but I am sure my canon pro-10 wastes just as much. The guy mentions trick of pulling out cartridge and shaking it to get at least a couple more prints out of the cartridge. I think I will try it next time.
Anyone got other tricks?

Seems silly, however it must leave some so you do not run out in the middle of a print. 25% does seem excessive.
Can you recover and add to ink in new cartridge with a hypo needle reseal over the hole with tape.
I gave up on printers and use a commercial service that uses real photo paper and laser printers. It is more than cost effective. Airprolab.com. FTP the file and they mail the work back. I am local and I pick up.

Just buy a chip resetter off ebay and set the chips back to 100% and use up the rest of the ink.
I agree that wasting ink is annoying...the Epson printer I use in my business takes 7.2 litres of ink to fill and has a 2 litre waste ink bottle that fills up far too quickly.
