First it was those pesky Iranian missiles (Tehran's form of public projectile dysfunction). Now it's the DoD getting in on all the fun, resulting in their getting on the AP's you-know-what list.

I had a few politically-minded one-liners lined up, but I'll just sit on 'em for now. :D

Aww come on..
Hey, I'm a mostly-civil guy...and besides, I'm in a good mood tonight.

But I'll say two things, neither of them necessarily related: firstly, the person who greenlighted that DoD altered-states photo-op should be ----canned, immediately. Yes, he or she will probably get a cushy private-sector job somewhere (good luck with that resume, in this economy), but shouldn't be on the public's dime any longer. Second: whoever was the Brainiac who renamed the GAO (replacing "Accounting" with "Accountability"...this happened inside the past eight years, for what that's worth) should also be sacked. The GAO is one of the relatively few government branches that truly earns its keep by helping make sure other branches earn theirs, more or less, currying no favor with either party. The seemingly-minor name change came off to me with a decidedly Orwellian smell.

That's all from me. Have I sufficiently upset anyone?

Thanks for that link, Nh3. Well, based on massive-retouching PS skills, I do suck compared to him (but only somewhat). The whole personal-ads-with-pictures thing is totally shot to Hell because of this, naturally. ;)

Forget about personal ads, every poster out there in the city and every shot on the glamor magazines...

Actually, with photoshop all you have to do is shoot a lot on the street and then use those stock images to create neat compositions and you can 'fabricate' street photography sitting right on your disk!

I am of the opinion that the world would be a better place had Photoshop never been invented. But I have no problem with the DOD adding a flag to the picture of a general, as the original was a fairly bad picture. I'd fire the photographer who took the unaltered one...

I know, I know...but it's sort of like the guys who do "virtual" game-hunting, where they hire someone to bag something by remote control...it's a turn-on for some people, but leaves me pretty cold.

It's true, however, that so much of pur visual experience is digitally massaged and managed. I've always utilized Photoshop as a digital transcription device for my photography, but that description gets laughed off as an illusion in and of itself, but I stick to it.
