I keep one camera with film for 'creative' projects.

For the past few years the film has been ten year old E6, xpro'd to C41.

Now my stock of old E6 is coming to an end. I could buy more but...

I can buy supermarket brand C41 expiry 2004 for pennies, not fridged or frozen. If I do buy this what do you think I may see in the way of fading, and in color shift?

Please bear in mind this is my Lomo mode, not my sister's wedding mode. Also that 100 rolls (minimum purchase quantity) is going to be used over a two year period, so I'm fast forwarding to predicting expiry 2004 film being used at end of 2008.

Any experience, any wild guesses?

Hallo Jon,

I've had bad experiences with out of date _cheap_ C41 35mm film. Sure, the weird colour shifts may be nice, but for me they tend to get grainier too.

However, I've been using OOD Fuji NPS 160 and Superia 400 and they've been absolutely lovely.

Yes, seems to me the orange mask gets darker, more grain, less sensitive, color shift toward magenta in bright areas and toward green in the darker parts. Not very pleasant, but this deterioration takes some years past expiry, and poor storage conditions.
