looking to get an extra battery, B&H is selling impact 3rd party battery for aournd $50.. are they reliable or should i pay more for Leica brand..

and am happy with it apart from - you have to fully discharge it in the camera before charging, otherwise the M8 does not pick up the increase in charge. I use it as #1 battery, and the Leica battery as #2, as I can recharge it from partly discharged.

You will find that all generics will not register the charge level correctly unless you fully discharge them (A pain especially when traveling)... If you want to try the generic look on eBay... they are a lot cheaper than $50

...had my M8 serviced in NJ and it was returned with what appeared to be a 3rd party battery. As mentioned above, this battery needs to be discharged fully before charging... i guess we're not the only ones trying to save a few $?

I generally stick with OEM batteries but I have an old Leica D-LUX and can't find OEM batteries for it. I ordered two replacements from Adorama. We'll see how they work.
