Hi guys

I use an ND filter quite often (ND8) and have just seen some fader NDs that would be quite useful.

My setup is an R-D1 with Voigtlander 28mm lens (42mm equiv)

Has anyone tried a fader ND and if so would it be a good choice for the R-D1? They seem to work well at 40mm according to most reviews I have seen, where the exposure degredation is fairly uniform across the frame. I'm not sure how a crop sensor would change this, but I'm assuming it would make the exposure even less uneven because any uneven-ness is seen at the outside of the (full) frame.

Here's one I'm looking at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330777031373?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 but there are also cheaper ones of a generic make. At about half the price and coming from China I'm inclined to buy decent and buy once from UK stock rather than get a cheaper one.

Anyone tried one, then?

Cheers

...and some say they are only really any use for video, not designed for stills...

I wasn't happy when I tried one. The quality of the still shots seriously degraded. I now have a Tiffen, but I haven't tested it out enough to recommend it or not. I can recommend the Sing-Ray, but the price of that is quite expensive.
