I'm thinking of picking up a 50mm around f1.4, but it must focus down to 0.7m. Old or new, I'd like to know what's out there to choose from. I'm not too concerned about contrast or sharpness, but I prefer low distortion and low field curvature (shouldn't be a problem with 50s, right?).

I'm thinking M-mount or LTM, but I'm also curious if there's any S-mount 50s like this. Thanks for your help!

I do a lot of kid photos for our church. I just put up 80+ of kids newborn to age 7. We have a lot of kids. I'm using a 50mm Summilux asph at .7 meters every week with the infants and the results have always been fantastic. Available low light at .7 meters this lens is the best. Actually it's best for about everything. Joe

Thanks everyone for your replies...looks like the Nikkor or pre-asph 'lux is the way to go. Frankly I'm a little surprised there aren't more, but it makes the decision easier at least! 😀

I think Roland (Ferider) had success modifying a Nikkor LTM 50/1.4 so that it would focus (coupled) to .7 meters.

?? It doesn't need to be modified. It couple-focuses as far as the body allows you to. The problem is usually the LTM-to-M adapters, where it's machined to about 1m; it's the adapter you have to modify, not the lens.

And as a pre-emptive clarification: modifying the adapter will not allow you to focus other LTM lens closer than it's designed to.
