Faster wides in LTM

So...
I've been thinking. This whole 'one body, one lens' thing... 35mm is my focal length. Since I got my 35/2.5 Skopar from Memphis I have barely touched my J8 and J3 (although I do have a couple of other lenses I am playing around with).

Thing is, I want something a bit faster. So I'm thinking the 35/1.7 Ultron, as it seems a fairly priced option (when they do pop up on the bay).
Are there many other options in LTM?

My ideal situation is to sell my J3, J8 and 35/2.5 Skopar and with the money from that get a faster 35mm; is this a pipe dream? Will I get anywhere near the necessary funds? Am I going to have to wait until I magically find a spare few hundred pounds in a back pocket?

Any thoughts?
Sorry if the above is less than coherent, it is all a bit stream-of-consciousness.

I hadn't thought about the Canon lenses to be honest.
Any idea what they go for (I'm looking for users, not collectibles)?
Time to go research Canon LTM lenses... (Although I should go to sleep, I have work in under 7 hours...)
 
Tom, I've only exposed one test roll with the Ultron 35/1.7 I bought from another RFF member, but I can strongly recommend the lens. I'd advise you not to sell both your 50mm lenses. Keep the better one: there are situations in which 35mm is too wide.
 
I have just had a quick read of what Karen Nakamura has to say about the 35/2 and some shots from it... That looks a mighty tempting lens...

Payasam, I just do not at all use 50mm on my Bessa anymore... Perhaps you're right, but it is also a question of raising funds...
 
Does anybody know of anywhere with regular stock of the Canon 35s?
I can't seem to find any through my usual routes of enquiry.
 
KEH usually has a few. but the fast 35's go quickly. (edit - d'oh - you're in the UK... I don't know if that is reasonable or not)

I posed a similar question here not long ago and ended up getting the Canon 35/1.8 (after owning, and accidentally destroying an Ultron). Both lenses are fantastic. I prefer the slightly moderated contrast of the Canon lenses, but you can't go wrong with the Ultron either.

You might want to look at Nikkors, they came in 3.5, 2.5 and 1.8 version. All are good but the 35/1.8 is world class, might be pricey though.

The CV 35/1.7 is a wonderful lens, loved mine while I had her.

yeah, the 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM will be on the expensive side- they have been selling for about 900 to 1000 USD on ebay lately. Nice lens, though
 
I did see a few of the Nikkors, and they were indeed rather dear.
I think I'm leaning towards the Canon 35/1.8, although I have seen a very cheap 35/2...
Still, until I shift my other lenses this is all speculation.
 
Has anybody got any samples from the Canon 35/1.8?
I'm probably going to be shooting BW, but I will be shooting colour too.

I do a lot of shooting in the evenings/nightlife (mainly due to the fact that I work until 10pm) and I feel it will make a difference.

I found a massive difference between my J8 (50/2) and my J3 (50/1.5) in the situations I was shooting, so I think the change from 2.5 to 1.8 will benefit me.
 
Hi Tom,

if you are set on a Canon, if you want nice bokeh and don't mind some flare wide open, I recommend the 1.8. If you want high resolution, and don't mind ugly (really) bokeh, get the 2.0.

Note however, that your Color Skopar will out-perform any of the Canon lenses at f2.5, using any metric. If you want "true" speed (high enough resolution across the field and acceptable flare at f2 or faster) I do recommend the Ultron. It's also easier to find good filters for the Ultron (compared to the Canon lenses). I believe Photovillage his still some NOS Ultrons for a good price.
