One of the two feds I recently got back from service...first film through.

Every frame has these leaks, some worse than others.

Diagnosis please....just your garden variety leak? Did I not get the back on properly?

Thanks

I experienced a similar leak with my Fed3B, and it drove me crazy: but I have been lucky to discover the source. Please check the screws on the front of your camera: these screws fix the shutter box to the front of your camera. The light enters from the lens and - if the light rays hit with the right angle - they find their way to the film winding reel.
If these screws are loosen, a light leak may occur on the film winding reel (right side, looking inside your camera). In that site you can see the line where the shutter box touch the camera front plate.
I hope this helps you: it is not easy to explain, but it is a simple solution in my experience.

Indriði,
I'll check the negatives tonight. I can't remember, but I believe the leak did not extend in to the sprocket wholes.

Mauro,
Thanks for the suggestion. All the screws on the front are tight.

Anyone else?

I'm not quite an expert... but on the sprocket holes:
If the leak is isolated to the frame, it's probably coming from the front, the curtains are leaky or open up on rewinding or hesitate during shooting etc.
If it extends to outside of the frame, the leak is probably not originating from the front, but rather from leaky seals on the sides or through a screwhole or something similar.

Hope you find a solution.

That does help. Either way, I think it's headed back to the people who just CLA'd it.

Well, I've never had a leak like this, so I can't talk out of my own experience, but I'm sure one of the experts here will have some wise comments.
To me, it sounds most likely that the leak is originated on the side, the one where the take-up spool is. I have read here on the forums that people fix some kinds of leaks (maybe this one too) with home-made light seals, made of yarn and some kind of glue, which is then supposed to seal where the back meets the body.

... or the back wasn't on right.

Steve,
Check out my post from 4 days ago re.'Light leak on a Mir lens mount'.

The leaks are identical to yours, and the diagnosis is similar.I have been given some advice on sealing the area around the take-up spool.I haven't had time to try them yet,but they may be of some help to you also.

Your leak looks like it might be coming from the bottom of the camera into the take up spool area, from the taper and colour, if there is not a shadow from the take up spool edge and it is at the beginning of a film then the leak is at the same level or above the edge of the spool, or before the film gets unto the spool.
It might be the back it might be via the selftimer or a leak from the topplate area, the reverse wind of the film and colour means it can come from most places in the takeup spool area.
If it did not do this before it was serviced it may be send it back time.
Otherwise black wool glue, PVC tape over self winder, & take notes.
chepo B&W film if you dev your own.
