First of all thanks Brian!!! I love this camera, it arrived early this morning and just felt right in my hands!

So straight test roll in the garden. Bright, accurate, generally really nice to use. Not thatthe kiev or zorki or other fed ARENT, but this has a charm about it. It probably helps I bothered metering then overdeveloping, so the pictures have a punch to them.

Attached are the not so great definite 'test photos'. And linked are the 3 that I just had to put into my gallery.

english summer?

and this just seemed so different, I had to!

Of the attached photo's, one shows the contrast and tonal scale, one is the mandatory hose-tap photo to check focus, and the other I felt like posting cos I think my scanner mimicks excessive agitation marks - the film was left without any agitation and I still got them?!

What do you all think anyways?

That's quick work Ash,results look good.

The Fed 50 works better on the Fed 2, than an I50 collapsible. The tab on the I50 projects below the bottom plate of the lens and binds against the camera's lens mount.I assume that I50's are more often matched with Zorkis

By the way the camera came to me from Ted White,in Arizona,a very friendly and helpful fellow Member.

Cheers,
Brian.

I have several Feds and Zorkis but my Fed 2b is probably my favourite. It definitely has the smoothest winding of all of my FSU cameras. I don't really miss the slow shutter speeds. The famed Oleg CLA'd this beast a couple of years ago, and am I ever glad that I got him to do that.

Is it just me or is knob winding more fun than lever winding? My Zorki 4K and Fed 3b and 5c sit on the shelf most of the time. The two FSU cameras in my bag right now are the Fed 2b and 3a... both knob winders. I think I've finally fixed my Zorki 4 film advance problem so I imagine it will be favourite #3, another knob winder. :)

I was thinking the same. I haven't even loaded a second film into the camera, but its sat by my ibook, so now and then I wind on and fire the shutter. It's to ermm....keep the grease loose in the mechanism.... :D

Its harder on the fingers than a lever wind, but it definitely is more fun. I hope I get a chance to take it out into town for a proper spin later.

Fed 2 is a sweet little camera.I have two and both are great.Bought one from Oleg,a 2d,and it's as smooth as butter. My other came from a fellow RFF member,Willy, and it to is a winner.I keep one with B&W the other color.Love'em.

Hi Ash!

Interesting test shots. Looks like you're using a contrasty film?

No.1 - difficult tonal separationwith the red filter.
No.2 - astigmatic fantastic with this lens! Which is it? The compo needs some
more thought and input though.
No.3 - see what you mean by the vertical banding. That isn't scanning related really
is it? Looks like agitation marks to me, but I haven't had much experience of
these...

Love that FED 2 lens. The camera ......? Does the leatherette come off?

I've had very good results wit a collapsible Fed lense on my Fed-1 too. The shots taken in color had a very good natural contrast. Unfortunately the one I got is not realy anastigmatic, some edges are not as sharp as they should be. But its still a wunderfull lense.

Is it optically the same as the Industar 22 and 50? I've heard these are Zeiss Tessar copies and the orginal Fed lense is a Leitz copy.

Greetings :)

Hi Ash,

It looks like you've got yourself a nice camera and lens there. I went out shooting with my Fed 2b this morning for only the second time since I got it (with a J-9 on it this time) and I really am getting to like it - it just feels really nice in my hands, and everything works smoothly.
