Hi,

I'm happy to send, my first post to you guys 😀

I bought a nice and none expensive FED 3 at a auction in Paris last week. Every thing works fine except the viewfinder.

When I look thru the viewfinder, I don’t see the picture with the rangefinder in the middle, but I see the reflexion of the rangefinder’s moving part thru the hole of the prism’s cover. :bang:
After moving the cover plate, I don’t see anything wrong and the problem persists when I adjust the rangefinder at the extremes.
So, I need help and maybe somebody of you, have had already sold this breakdown and can advise me to fix it. 😀

welcome!
is the viewfinder eyepiece aligned with the front optical block?
that front glass block looks a bit skewed in your photos.

Hi Denis, welcome to the forum.
It's good to see that you are able to work on your FED.

Please forgive a stupid question; does the camera have the screw-in front glass in the RF window and the diopter eyepiece at the back?
And, just to agree with xrayaa33, the clamp for the block does look to be at a funny angle.

Dave..

Hi,

Thanks for having anwsered me,

Yes, there was a screw in the front on the right of the rangefinder window. I removed it with the cover plate and I Also removed the diopter eyepiece. It was Easier to work without it 😀

Both of you guys sem to tell me that I have to take off the prism block and stick it at the right place. certainly correct, but a big jump for me 😡

Many thanks, and now I'm waiting for a miracle:angel:

Hi Denis, could you reassemble the diopter and rf windows and mount them on the body (without top)? You might then be able to loosen the screw which locks the block and move whilst you look through the VF, until the image is right?

Hi,

I reassembled the diopter and the rf window, I unscrewed the block, I realigned the prism and the optical block. And I mounted them on the body.

I can say it's better but there is still something bad on the left of the picture.

I wonder whether the mobile block needs an adjustment?

I continue 😀
