I received in the mail my I-61 L/D the other day (which was extremely stiff and took some lubrication and cleaning to become usable again) and was surprised that it came with an FED-5 rear cap! 😉

The camera itself require some adjustment as well, but I'm pretty handy with a screwdriver and the internet, so it wasn't too much of a problem. Now I've got a nice, clean working FED-5 with a meter that still appears to work! I wasn't expecting that!

This camera really is ugly. But it grows on you, so it's not so bad after all. My one problem with it was that after I put the faceplate and stuff back on from adjusting the RF, the wind mechanism jammed, inexplicably! Uh...interestingly, the solution was to take the two screws in the top plate that fit in about the same place as the wind mechanism and just *force* the thing, which I figured was going to break it, but actually ended up freeing it up. (Maybe I used a little Ronsonol, too.)

THAT I'm curious as to why.

Any of my comrades have any experiences with the FED-5 and I-61 L/D they'd like to share?

Its truly ugly...😀

Perhaps the jamming was caused by displacement of some gears in the winding mechanism. Loosening the top plate juggled the displaced parts back to ideal position?

As almost every other comrade have already found, the I-61 L/D is one of the best 50mms ever made. My FED-5 have jammed too....not much to be concerned about since rear lens caps are never expected to do more than covering the rear lens elements 😛

Well..the FED5 was actually my first camera and my first buy on Ebay... it´s a ´94 model and came with the rangefinder a little bit out of adjustment. Besides that never had any kind of problems with the camera! I reckon it´s a little ugly and big but...like kvanderlaag said, it grows on you!

the two screws on the top cover , front and back, just hold the cover to the frame.
the internal lever wind mechanisim on the Fed 5 seem IMHO, to be more robust than what is on the Zorki 4K.
