Well-known
This is awkward ...
A year ago , any Leica was a dream , two little Leica copies were my budget intro - later Oleged and confirmed as ID stolen Fed 1 gs !
Earnestly dee termined to squander my inheritance and get back to scraping around for film and developing , I now have several Reds and Leicas II 1932/ 1933 / IIIc / IIIf ....
... and a Leica M 8 ...
The brightest and most crisp lense i have is a ''clip'' I 10 collapsible lense from an early Fed 2 - most of my USSR lenses don't register , but two clip Feds and one ''new '' J8 do focus OK .
I guess I should not be surprised 'cos my I 22s created fine slides with my Fed / Leicas .
My 50s Elmar and uncoated Summitar are excellent , but this one little coated Fed just has an edge - yet with that unmistakeable '' Leica '' pictorial property which I can't explain ....
Many of my I 22s etc seemed soft on the M8 - including two which I know to be fine - it was that they are out of focus on Leicas , though I am sure that one or two are suspect .
Of course , my judgement may be coloured by how much I paid today - though in the 50s a Fed 2 must have been a small fortune to buy in the USSR, and they had been making and improving this design for a while [ The '' clip '' lenses must have been among the last to be made , and do not foul the adapter on the M8 ]
as for modern lenses , achieving the M 8 , was to create that 50s feel translated to digital - not to achieve the ''best '' from the camera .
i like the thought of my '' worthless '' I 10 on the M8 , complete with it's Fed lense cap !
