The Fed2 is coming with a FED f3.5/50mm lens. I am also looking for a wide angle and portrait type lens (I understand that the Jupiter 9 is good) and a telephoto 100mm+. What would the recommendations be. $$ are short but heck, I can always sell a camera or two if I have to.

Congrat's Larry... The FED 2 is one I don't have yet :) but they seem to be very popular here lately. What colour is yours?

As far as lenses go I can definitely recommend the J-12 35/2.8 as a 'cheap wide-angle' option. If you have to have one now, Ebay is probably your best bet, but be sure to buy from a seller with a good reputation (alex-photo etc...). If you can wait they do show up in the classifieds here now and again.

The J-9 can aslo be a great lens, but for the prices they go for (especially in ltm) & the variation between samples that is often written about you might also be better off waiting for a known good one to turn up here. Another option in that range is the Elmar 90/4. I picked mine up cheaply on ebay because it was listed as having haze... Most of it cleaned up easily (the lens just screws apart) & for $40 it was a steal. Be careful about other ltm lenses in the same focal range such as the Canon's, Steinheil etc... They might have the 'wedge' cam that will get caught on the rangefinder arm of your FED 2 if you try and mount it. Same advice for anything in the 135mm range unless it's a J-11 135/4, which will definitely work ok & is a very good lens for the price (Sonnar clone).

Have fun with your FED...

Peter

I have the 35mm J-12 (wide angle lens) in LTM and it performs well. The J-9 (portrait lens) I have is in Kiev mount and is a great performer also. Keep in mind that the J-9 in LTM may have more issues with them. I have no experience with the 135mm Jupiter-11.

Great info re lenses - got save up my rubles.

Peter, the colour is 'dark' so maybe dark blue? It is an older Fed, the accessory shoe is recessed and the rewind nob doesn't have the mushroom type cap on it.

Looks like a FED 2b , a version 5 according to Jim Blazzecks now defunct webpage , which you can download an archive version of from Here curtesy of sovietleica.
As for lenses , I use the J12 and have just received an Orion 15 28mm though the Orion isn't as common as the J12 so usually a bit more expensive :( I will post some sample pictures when I finish the test roll .

Be sure to read the J9vs Serener thread in this forum before thinking about a canon lens for your fed. I know they are pretty cheap on ebay esp. the 135s. Btw nice painting by your daughter. Enjoy your new fed 2. I am mine.:)
