FID! (aka Film Is Dead)

hah - apart from no replies, not even one view - I think my (sarcastic) title is scaring people away!

Fujifilm is sure (at least officially) giving us a break and a bit of fresh air for a change.

I truly wish them the best !

Why hasn't it started yet? I mean the "Fuji are only doing this as they're in their death throes and will only produce film for another couple of years because they're about to go under and I saw into the future well before anyone else did..." comments. Come on, you (and I) know who you are, get cracking!

PS to previous post. Being (almost!) serious for a minute, this is excellent news all around. I must admit, I've grown more than tired of the "film is dead and I told you so" posts which seemed to me to be totally against the spirit and intentions of the forum. Yes, we all know digital photography is going to be the way forward for the vast majority of photographers in the future but rather than pontificating about it all, let's just get out and enjoy photography in our favourite way and let that decide how long film survives. Clearly, Fuji are clearly prepared to help with the film side (at least in the short term but they're just kidding themselves and are going to go bankrupt and you're all a load of luddite losers... Just helping out with the inevitable reply there).

These look like updates of old emulsions. Even if they are updates are good. I hope it is not just the box-price that gets updated though, new emulsion technology is always intersting.

Perhaps Fuji is filling the recent wholes in the market. Konica film, my favourite, has finally dried up locally. There's hardly any left at London Drugs.

A new 64 ISO chrome !!!!

You know what this means - Paul Simon has to revise his song!

"Mama don't you take my Fujichrome away!" 😀

"Film is dead" or whatever, types posts generally have a certain (un)appeal to those of us who have seen a few hundred of them. That might explain the initial low readership. It might be denial, it might be hope.

Nice to read that Fuji is keeping up the good fight, though.

This doesn't surprise me at all, Both of these are "pro" films, the professional film market is still very strong, Kodak and Fuji both make and sell a ton of Chrome and neg film in the pro market, even polaroid came out with a new film last year.

So far I would say digital has had a crushing blow only on the consumer end, Many pros shoot film or both film and Digital these days.

Nah, George... he was singin' about K25. GIMME ASA 25 CHROME ... in 35mm, 120/20 AND 4x5!!!

I only shot 25 once - a million years ago. Now that I have a place in the sun (Tucson) that I get to go to on occassion (like tomorrow!) I'd love to shoot something that slow and fine.

Is there another 25 out there?

There is the other caveat to the digital revolution. Film has never been better. It is nice to see Fuji at it. I love Sensia 100, even though I shoot mostly black and white. Maybe I should splurge on another roll.

I can't wait for spring to begin so I can shoot the ISO64. But I'm sure Sensia 100 will stay my favourite slide film, it's so cheap here you have to shoot it. A five pack is 15 Euro including development, that's cheaper than B&W!

Doesnt it seem odd that they would budget money for not only a new film product, but a tungsten film product. seeing that film is shrinking and tungsten is shrinking even faster?
